Flight is engineering

How do you get 500 people in an aeroplane off the ground? Making things that seem impossible possible is an engineer's job. Nowadays, aeronautical engineering is all about creating and maintaining the aircraft the modern world depends on. Technical skills and creativity are both key to success if you want to fly high in this vital field.

Sophie fell in love with the idea of becoming an astronaut, but didn’t know how to get there. She realised that becoming an engineer was the way to get into space. Sophie now works at BAE Systems with planes of the future to revolutionise our travel.

A trip to space camp in Alabama turned Bethan’s fear of flying into a passion for understanding how flight works. After a degree apprenticeship she led a team rebuilding aircraft engines and making flying safe.
